Hi Tina,

Do you mean Diabetic Retinopathy?
Sorry to hear he has been diagnosed with this but if he has been having his annual eye checks it will have been caught in the early stages and can more than likely be prevented from getting any worse.
Could the two of you see your GP together so that it can be explained to you?

Love and hugs, Doreen xx

Tina- if you mean Diabetic Retinopathy try not to be too upset. I started with this many years ago and it is kept well under control with laser treatment..

Hi Tina, my husband was diagnosed with retinopathy at his last appt in April. He was told its early stages and can be kept in check, just like Julie M has said. I know its alot to take in what with other problems etc. but try not to stress too much, go and ask gp, they can help explain this to you. Its bad that he got told in a letter though!! Take care x

Hi Tina

What a lovely response from Lylie - I couldn't agree more. My mum has had the diabetic reti thing for year Tina and has laser treatment like Julie M. She is now nearly 70 and her vision is fine with ordinary glasses like most people her age need to wear. Take care.

Hello Tina,

This is a dreadful way to let people know that they have early Diabetic Retinopathy after their annual eye test. My son, who has been diabetic since he was 7 years old and is now 32, also had the same news via letter 2 years ago. he now has more regular checks and it has not deteriorated much more in that time. Lasar treatment can be given if/when necessary.

I would speak to the GP or optician about what this means for your husband.

Love Eleanor x

Hi Tina,

I agree with Eleanor, it's a dreadful way to give a diagnosis!
You and your husband should see your GP together as soon as poss for a proper explanation and advice.

I must say though, reading these replies has reassured me that there is treatment for retinopathy if it occurs because my husband now has type 2 diabetes and that is one of the things I was worried about.

Sending my best wishes to your husband, and don't worry Tina, no-one minds you sounding off, you have had such a lot to cope with recently.

Love, Doreen xx

Hi Tina

I'm sorry about your news, and the way you found out, but I hope you get some comfort from the posts on here.
